Mary Blair Meadow Gold commercial

In the early 1950’s, a Little Golden Book was published entitled, “I Can Fly” by Ruth Krauss with illustrations by Mary Blair. The book was popular and caught the eye of someone who thought the little girl and the graphic style would be good for a Meadow Gold advertising campaign. So in the mid-1950’s, a few commercials were made by TV Graphics, Inc. of New York (owned by Mary Blair’s husband, Lee Blair). I have two of them - they are both similar but one is for milk and one is adapted to advertise ice cream. Click HERE to view the commercial.

My pleasure, Mike. I've had a 3/4" tape of the TVG sample reel for years - just sitting on my shelf. I recently did a digital transfer, so I'll be sharing more things in the coming days/weeks. Next up is a motion graphics piece that Preston Blair did for the Air Force (recruiting campaign). Preston made it by himself with cut paper shapes under the camera - the sync (with a jazz piece by the Air Force Jazz Band)is great!

I just got the book "I Can Fly" a couple of days ago off of eBay. My two-year-old daughter loves it. As I put her to bed tonight, she said, "My house is...like a mouse's!

Just minutes later, I was looking at "Drawn!" and found my way here. Thank you so much for posting it! I think of the years I could have spent searching for this spot--sometimes the internet really is amazing. Thanks again!

To Bill B.
Glad you enjoyed the commercial. The internet really is amazing - I can't believe that GE or Westinghouse doesn't own it!
